Man in prison for attempting to strangle mother

A 35-year-old man who is still single and living with his aged parents has been remanded in prison for attempting to strange his mother to death.

For attempting to strangle his own mother, a 35-year old man, Henry Onyebuchi Ezenwa, has been remanded in prison custody by Magistrate A.A. Fashola of a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court.

PM Express reports that Ezenwa allegedly tried to kill his aged mother, Bernadette, in her house at 2 Ademola Crescent, Alagbodo area of the state, where he still lives with his parents.

The incident, according to police report, happened on November 12, 2016, when the suspect who is still single, grabbed and held his mom on her neck to strangle her.

But his plan to snuff life out of his mother was unsuccessful as the woman managed to raise an alarm which attracted neighbours who rushed into the apartment and saved her life.

She was taken away from the house to a safe place while the matter was reported to the police at Idimu Area Command and the suspect was later trailed and arrested.

During investigations, the victim lamented that she and members of their family had not known peace for several years over the suspect’s attitude.

She pleaded with the police to do whatever they wanted with her son as she no longer wanted him in the family for peace to reign.

The suspect who was not remorseful over his action, is said to have been a thorn in the flesh of the family.

It was gathered that Onyebuchi who is the third child in the family of four children, is the black Sheep in the family as the rest are all graduates and are doing well in their various careers and have all settled down.

According to the mother, the parents had pleaded with him to go to school but he refused and told them he wanted to deal in used tyres business which they supported him financially but he squandered the money given to him only to go back home and live with the parents.

The parents again supported him to start other businesses which also failed woefully and he later took to drinking, smoking and violence.

When the charge of attempted murder was read to the suspect, he, however, pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, but ordered he be remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail, while the matter was adjourned till January 23, 2017, for hearing.
