Idris Adesina
Aruna Quadri has said his journey to his current position in the sport was tough.
The 28-year-old reached the
quarterfinals of the table tennis singles event at the Rio 2016 Olympic
Games before crashing out in the first round of the 2016 ITT World Cup
in Germany.
The France-based player said he was able to achieve his current status due to hard work and support from individuals.
“At the earlier stage of my career, the
biggest problem was how to get equipment, to feed and transport myself.
I must also confess that it has not been very easy at all,” he said in a
statement by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation
“But I can say that the Nigeria Table
Tennis Federation President, Wahid Oshodi, brought me to the top from
nowhere. He supported me in all areas of my career.”
He added, “Sometimes you get tired while
training because you have no support from your government, and
sometimes you get tired because despite your hard work, the results are
not forthcoming. But I always have it on my mind that my hard work will
definitely pay off.
“I must also say that Nigeria is not worth dying for in sports because athletes are not always supported.
“But whenever you remember how your fans
are praying, supporting and cheering you on in your home country, I can
conclude that the country is worth dying for.”
