Support not hate. Wizkid should be praised for this, not hated and scorned for being an achiever.
Wizkid
has been nominated for a Grammy awards. That’s the truth, the fact and
the only thing that truly matters to Nigeria at this year’s Grammy.
Wizkid becomes the first Nigerian pop star to get a nod in the award
ceremony.
But many people refuse to
acknowledge that. Some even outrightly mock the greatness of the singer
for getting his name on the sheet via hardwork, and smart power moves.Others say ‘It’s a lie’. Show me where Wizkid’s name was written, let me see.”
Well, I’ll show you. Better read and allow wisdom enter your brain.
Ahem.
Remember
his song with Drake? That same song where most of you took shots at him
for contributing only ‘background vocals’ and ‘crying like a rat on the
song’?
Well, that contribution is what has carried that boy to the Grammys.
The Nigerian pop star makes the list for his contribution to Drake’s 2016 “Views” album. The singer was a prominent contributor on the lead single, ‘One Dance’, where he is nominated as a guest artiste, and also as a producer.
I
know some of you will say that it is Drake that owns the album. How
come Wizkid’s name is involved? That’s because the award is presented to
everybody that worked on the project.
The
Grammy Award for Album of the Year is presented by the National Academy
of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to "honor artistic
achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the
recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position.
Album of the Year is the most prestigious award category at the Grammys
having been presented since 1959.
Although
it was originally presented to the artist alone, the award is now
presented to the main artist, the featured artist(s), the producer, the
engineer and/or mixer and the mastering engineer.
See the photo below.
So
you see? Haters, you see? If this award is won by Drake, Wizkid will be
going home with two gongs. For production and guest feature on the
album. If that album wins it, Wizkid will take two Grammy trophies home,
bring it back to his house in Lagos, polish it well, and hang it on his
shelf.
Well done boy! Well done!
Wizkid’s
Grammy nomination is real, and the best thing for you people will be to
show support for one of your own who is working hard at pushing past
the glass ceilings that have limited our pop music for far too long. If
he continues to work hard at this and breaks through into global
markets, it opens the way for achievements by our local stars and the
growth of our industry.
Support not hate. Wizkid should be praised for this, not hated and scorned for being an achiever.
