If a woman wants to get married at a young age it doesn't mean she is abandoning her dreams and goals.
The daughter of the President, Zahra Buhari will be getting married in December to Ahmed Indimi, son of the billionaire, Mohammed Indimi, who holds the position of the Marketing Director of Oriental Energy Resources.
Zahra
is the second daughter of President Buhari to tie the knot this year.
During the presidential campaign, Zahra became a viral sensation because
of her good looks.
The 21-year-old has
no doubt broken hearts with the news of her upcoming marriage. Apart
from broken-hearted men, writer, journalist, literary editor and critic,
Molara Wood wasn't too happy about the news of Zahra's intending nuptials.
Ms Wood yesterday, Tuesday, November 22, 2016, tweeted "Zahra
Buhari, all of 21, straight of uni, is to marry billionaire's son. What
of a second-degree first, or a master's, or a career."
The
respected journalist got a backlash on Twitter for her view. In the
mind of an average feminist, a 21-year-old female getting married to a
billionaire isn't ideal. At that age, a young woman should focus on her
career and not be shackled by marriage.
That's
not a bad mindset to but on the real, there is nothing with getting
married at 21. A young woman who is 18 and above has the right to marry
anyone she chooses and at any age. This does not mean that getting
married will stop her from furthering her goals and pursuing her career.
There are millions of women who got their Masters and other degrees
years after they got married. Marriage does not stop anything.
Also,
what if Zahra doesn't want to further her education and is okay with
her degree in Microbiology? Not everyone is a degree junkie. Some women
just want to get their first degree and start a family. This doesn't
make her inferior to women who want to further their education.
While feminism is a great movement, it should create room for women who might not agree with all of its ideals.
