An houseboy has been sentenced to three years imprisonment after he was found guilty of robbing his boss.
Dayo Opebiyi, a 30-year-old houseboy, would be full of regrets at the devil that pushed him to steal from his boss as he was sentenced to three years in prison by an Ojokoro Magistrate's Court sitting in Ijaiye, Lagos.
Opebiyi was found guilty on two counts bordering on burglary and stealing after
he was accused of breaking into his master's home and stealing various
items and cash including 1000 Euros and N50,000, a digital camera, I
Phone, six mobile phones, all valued at N550,000.
Opebiyi
had lived at Block 62, Ojokoro Housing Estate, Meiran with his boss,
one Rufus Adeojo, for two years, before he decided to commit the crimes.
It
was gathered that the convict collected the key to Adeojo’s apartment
on June 6, 2013, as he usually did and returned it a few minutes later
but on the fateful day, the boss discovered that the items were missing
after he had gone into the room to clean up.
The
culprit was said to have fled the home afterwards, but was later
arrested by the police, who brought him before the presiding magistrate,
Mrs. T. Akanni, on two counts of stealing and burglary.
According
to a statement he made at the Meiran Police Station, he wanted to sell
the items to finance his travel out of the country.
While Opebiyi was sentenced to one year for the first count, he got two years for the second count.
