From Hip Hop's loudest hype machine, DJ Khaled transformed himself into a star thanks to Snapchat.
This time last year only rap fans knew who DJ Khaled was. The chubby DJ from America with Arabian origins who is now a rock star was the go-to-guy in Hip Hop if you wanted to be on a smash hit.
For close to a decade DJ Khaled created monstrous anthems featuring some of the biggest names in Hip Hop. However a couple of years ago DJ Khaled had peaked and it looked as if his loud career was about to take a nosedive.
Last year as DJ Khaled contemplated the next move in his career as he joined SnapChat.
At that the app was a new app that was cool among millennials. Khaled
got on the app and it started his transformation into a star.
DJ Khaled turn himself into a giant meme with his phrases “don’t ever play yourself”, and “Lion!!!!!!!!!!!” Quickly DJ Khaled’s stories became the most engaging snaps on the new app.
A
typical DJ Khaled snap would start with him waking up in the morning and
motivating his fans. He would then go downstairs, ask his chef what’s
for breakfast and declare how his life is good because he is eating
breakfast.
Khaled would then go to his famous garden and scream “Liooooooon!”
in front of his lion statue in his garden. After this comes the words
of wisdom segment where Khaled would drop gems about his hustle and how
‘they’have been trying to hold not only him but you down.
DJ
Khaled puts so much conviction and passion into his snaps that it would
be hard not to take him serious. By using SnapChat DJ Khaled welcomed
us into his life where every word is exaggerated and every phrase is
turned into a mantra. Khaled is a self-hype machine and SnapChat is his
trumpet.
Occasionally
DJ Khaled would move out of his mansion to go and visit his more famous
neighbours Rick Ross and Diddy. Even this seemingly innocent trip is
filled with comedy.
It’s common for the former Cash Money
artiste to get lost on his way to visit his neighbours on his ski jet.
Always ready to give his fans an unfiltered access into his life, Khaled
will snap when he was lost in the sea.
By
constantly having the most entertaining stories on SnapChat DJ Khaled
tapped into mainstream America. Today he has six million followers on
the app making him the most followed celebrity on SnapChat.
His fame on the new app has opened him up to a new audience and given him the opportunity to work with President Barack Obama.
Late night shows that refused to interview DJ Khaled are now quickly
booking him. Since his SnapChat eruption he has been on numerous
magazine covers.
Thanks to DJ Khaled
embracing new media his career has started anew. Since he became a
phenomenon he has signed a management deal with Jay Z and has gone on tour with Beyonce. It doesn’t get bigger than that for Khaled.
