Darey Art-Alade is the son of the late legendary jazz and highlife singer, Modupe Arthur Alade aka Art Alade, who held sway in the entertainment industry in the sixties and seventies.
But as many people would want to be in their father’s shoes, the RandB singer said he has never tried to be like his father.
He said, “I have never tried to fit in
my father’s shoes. I cannot even think about it. The man was too much
for me. I just want to do my own thing and I think I have succeeded in
charting my own course. I am just doing my own thing.”
The soulful singer whose song, Pray for Me,
has been dominating music charts across Africa since its release, said
that the inspiration for the song came to him after he heard the story
of how his colleagues, P-Square, came to Lagos.
Art-Alade said, “I was inspired by the story of P-Square that was told to me by producer, Oscar, who actually produced the song. The song was about how they left home and their journey to Lagos. The story does not talk about them directly but in terms of inspiration, I got it from them.”
He told Saturday Beats that even though he is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos, he is not interested in being an actor.
“I am a trained actor but acting in
movies is not for me. I have done some stage production and to me, that
is more important. I cannot do everything. I would change my mind if
anything changes. I have never got frustrated sticking to this genre of
music. I pay my bills, I have my market and I am happy.”
